Welcome to the estuary! In Oulu, you can experience the proximity of water just a short walk from the city centre. In the city, the cultural landscape overlooking the river is almost everywhere. In the lush, park-like Hietasaari, you'll discover the sandy beaches of the Nordic Riviera, while the industrial history and artists of Pikisaari are captivated by the atmosphere created by the old wooden houses. In the lush city park of the Hupisaari, you can try your hand at counting how many white bridges you can find spanning the waterways. At Värtö beach, you can take a dip in the fresh Oulu River all year round. In Meri-Toppila, frisbee golfing on the shores of the Bothnian Sea is a memorable experience, while in winter you can hop on a fat bike and head for the sea ice.
